Artist Talk with Nora Turato and Michelle Cotton

Talk
12/11 2024 7 pm
Museumsquartier

In her text-based works and spoken ward performances, Nora Turato examines the ephemeral and slippery nature of language and how we experience it in our daily lives. Turato’s wall painting for Kunsthalle Wien employs the 62-metre vitrine on the south-west exterior wall of the building to articulate a scream. The meticulously constructed mural, its typeface and the controlled application of the paint is in direct opposition to the vocal sound that it represents, which the artist describes as ‘one of the most primal and uninhibited forms of expression’. The work refers to the collective trauma of ‘the ongoing incessant news cycle and state of the world with which we are all confronted and where this scream is the only reasonable form of not just release, but expression’.

The talk with Michelle Cotton, Artistic Director Kunsthalle Wien, will be held in English and is for free.
