Ja, Ja, Ja, Ja, Ne, Ne, Ne, Ne is intended as a reminiscence of Joseph Beuys, whose artistic event in 1968 is reprised without attempting to fully recreate or grasp Beuys’ audio-tape performance. As with Beuys, the singsong of the opposing “yes” and “no” become a levelling mantra with its Dadaistic onomatopoeia; but now transposed in time it achieves a new relevance that differs from the original which was a reflection on broken heroism.
