The multi-part sculpture Gäste / Gosti / Misafirler at the public space of Kunsthalle Wien Karlsplatz is the result of an intensive collaboration of students of the Berufsschule für Baugewerbe (trade school for construction) with artist Karsten Födinger. In contrast to the usual practical work in their respective jobs, the students had the opportunity to experiment with concrete and to express themselves artistically.
Who is a guest? How is hospitality defined by our society? How can a multinational society create a place of coexistence? How do we welcome our guests? This artistic project does not want to offer answers to these current socio-political questions, but to stimulate the debate.
The project was initiated by the education department of Kunsthalle Wien together with the Berufsschule für Baugewerbe and is supported by the Chamber of Labour, Vienna.
