The Mercedes-Benz Ponton, bought in 1967 by Helene Weigel while Director of the Berliner Ensemble, and recently rediscovered, can be found parked at locations near Burgtheater and Volkstheater. The company car, owned by the Austrian actress and wife of Bertolt Brecht, makes a symbolic return to Vienna. It’s inclusion within the framework of There Is No Place Before Arrival is a poetic and performative gesture that raises manifold political and historical connections with the city and the actors related, such as the “Brecht Boycott” (1953-63) and the performance of Mother Courage and her Children in 1963 at the Volkstheater.
From July 12, until July 14 the car is parked next to the Burgtheater at Löwelstraße.
