Writer, activist, performer, and entrepreneur Denise Van De Cruze was born in Guyana and raised in the United States.
Her writing and her poetry explore themes of identity, belonging, and displacement.
Van De Cruze is the founder and owner of Villa Vida, a Viennese queer community cafe. Through Villa Vida, she organizes the Queer Feminist Festival and the Queer Mutual Aid Fund in coordination with other LGBTQIA+ artists, activists, and organizations.
Her work focusses on building community, bringing together marginalized groups, and encouraging free artistic expression. In 2015, she founded the social networking group Black People in Vienna.
