The guided tour by Hana Ostan Ožbolt through the exhibition Sanja Iveković: Works of Heart (1974–2022) will focus on the “performative body” and the question of representation while “performing for the camera”. Sanja Iveković uses her own body as a medium to challenge traditional conceptions of gender and sexuality, self-imaging, and the narrative of women’s ongoing struggle for social justice. Growing up in Ljubljana (and therefore close to Zagreb), Ostan Ožbolt is well familiar with the powerful practice of Iveković, who she finds inspirational.
Hana Ostan Ožbolt is an independent curator, writer and since 2019 director of the Ulay Foundation. Since 2021, she has been a PhD Candidate at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, researching the notion of “performing for the camera”, the body as a medium and its representation in various (also digital) contexts. In 2021, she curated the exhibition BODY ECSTATIC BODY ECLECTIC BODY ECCENTRIC, which also included works by Iveković.
The tour is organized jointly by Kunsthalle Wien and BLOCKFREI, an independent cultural organization based in Vienna. Hana Ostan Ožbolt was the curator-in-residence at BLOCKFREI’s Curators’ Agenda: Research Residency program in spring 2022. This guided tour marks the final event of her residency.
