New Ways of Doing Nothing is dedicated to an artistic production that rejects activity, doing, and the making of a work and productively occupies forms of doing nothing, of inaction or asceticism instead. Inactivity in the sense of not doing, not only generates a critical moment but also a creative one. Starting out from historical examples from the 1960s and 1970s in which art consistently refuses the demands made of it by institutions and the art market or temporarily goes on strike, the focus shifts to contemporary art positions in which “doing nothing” develops its own potential in relation to the demands (and impositions) of a society which is principally concentrated on activity and productivity.
