Aleksandra Domanović’s work focuses on the intersections of technology, history and culture, considering the way that they shape our understanding of identity and contemporary society. This new exhibition brings together sculpture, video, print, photography and digital media produced over the last eighteen years. Presenting over forty works, including new commissions, it surveys the development of a playful yet critical practice shaped by information culture in the post-internet era. It is the first exhibition of Domanović’s work in Austria and the largest presentation of her work to date.
Nora Turato’s 62-metre mural inaugurates an annual public commission for Kunsthalle Wien’s Museumsquartier building vitrines. Turato’s work employs language as its primary material, playfully addressing the power structures at work in its spoken and written forms. This new piece employs the vitrines around the south-west exterior wall of the building to illustrate a scream, articulating one of the most primal and uninhibited forms of expression in a meticulously constructed wall painting.
The exhibition by Aleksandra Domanović is realised with the kind support of Slowenisches Kulturinformationszentrum SKICA, Vienna.
The presentation of Aleksandra Domanović’s installation Becoming Another is kindly supported by its original commissioner Audemars Piguet Contemporary. (@AudemarsPiguet / #APxART)
