Talk with Miguel A. López and Daniela Ortiz

Artist talk
7/9 2021 7 pm
Museumsquartier

We are very happy to finally being able to welcome curator Miguel A. López in Vienna, after travel restrictions unfortunately made it impossible for him to come for the opening of the exhibition And if I devoted my life to one of its feathers? back in May.

On Tuesday, September 7, 7 pm Miguel will give an introduction to the exhibition and tell us more about the origins and development of the show after being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the interconnections between and the manifold issues tackled by the exhibited artworks and how they involve all of us while living together.

He will be joined by artist Daniela Ortiz who shows two of her works as part of the exhibition. They will talk about Daniela’s artistic and activistic practice, especially her new work which has been commissioned for this show: Papa, with P for Patriarchy, a hand-drawn children’s book about a father who is a hero — but a hero of the patriarchy. The story explores the legal mechanisms behind racist and patriarchal abuse and violence. Ortiz addresses psychological oppression and its forms of economic, mental, physical, and emotional confinement — particularly as experienced by single mothers — which is aggravated in situations like the social quarantine that has been put in place due to the pandemic.

Event in English.
