Workshop: Sculpture Improvisation

Workshop
19/5 2022 3:30 pm — 6:30 pm
Museumsquartier

Workshop with Diana Barbosa Gil as part of the exhibition Handspells. Kunsthalle Wien Prize 2021.

The admission is free, please register in advance: besucherservice@kunsthallewien.at

We explore what it means to build sculptures with materials that are immediately available to us– materials we find on the street, in nature, in the leftovers at the workshop of Kunsthalle Wien.

From these resources we will build sculptures and talk to each other about what this kind of improvisation does to us while building. The workshop is open to everyone who wants to get involved in such a discussion, but perhaps also asks her-/himself:

How do connections come about and what makes a satisfactory composition? (If there is such a thing at all.) How to show in which way the elements relate to and within each other? Do decisions and processes become visible in the process? To what extent is material shapeable without any special expertise and little manual skills? Am I proud to be an amateur?

Methods from one’s own artistic practice are to be reflected and thus also a relationship to space will be created. With the built sculptures we will play at the space, we will document them, and gift them afterwards to a loving person.

Please bring:  a bag for collecting our materials
