From his beginnings in the lively amateur film scene of Yugoslavia in the 1960s, Želimir Žilnik (b. 1942, lives and works in Novi Sad, Serbia) has gone on to make more than sixty films, including a number of feature films and TV productions. The exhibition’s title, Shadow Citizens, reflects Žilnik’s lifelong focus on invisible, suppressed, and under- and misrepresented members of society. Curators What, How & for Whom / WHW (Ivet Ćurlin, Ana Dević, Nataša Ilić and Sabina Sabolović) bring together Žilnik’s feature films, film excerpts, and documentary material, thus covering his entire oeuvre and its critical and public reception over the years.
Celebrate the opening of Shadow Citizens with us for the whole weekend – from 4 pm on Friday, October 23 to 7 pm on Sunday, October 25, admission to the exhibition is free.
Based on the current COVID-19 prevention measures, the number of visitors allowed in the exhibition halls at the same time is limited, thus providing a safe visit for all. We ask for your kind understanding if waiting times occur.
