Jointly organized by the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and Kunsthalle Wien, the Kunsthalle Wien Prize is awarded annually by a jury to one recent graduate of each art school to bridge the gap between the academic and the professional worlds.

The new iteration of the Kunsthalle Wien Prize is grounded in plurality, openness, and long-term exchange. Two winners will each receive a money prize. In addition to this, six to eight students — including the two prizewinners — will have the opportunity to present their works in a group show. This exhibition will be organized together with the curatorial team of Kunsthalle Wien departing from the practices of the selected artists. To contextualize the emerging artists’ works in diverse formats, a publication and a public program will accompany the show.

We hope the prize will offer occasion to foster an extensive dialogue on the making of art and exhibitions in the current economy of material and knowledge production.

The award includes
— a money prize of € 3,000 each for two award winners (one winner from the University of Applied Arts Vienna, one winner from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna)
— participation in a group show in March 2022 at kunsthalle wien for six to eight students who applied to the prize, including the two prizewinners
— inclusion in a publication on the show
— a studio visit with an international curator

The jury 2022 includes:
The curatorial team of Kunsthalle Wien consisting of WHW, Anne Faucheret and Aziza Harmel, from the Academy Veronika Dirnhofer, Julian Göthe and Johan Hartle, from the University of Applied Arts Cosima Rainer, Lukas Posch and Eva Maria Stadler and as external juror Vít Havránek (curator and vice rector of the Academy of Fine Arts Prague).
