Jointly organized by Kunsthalle Wien, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the Kunsthalle Wien Prize is awarded annually to one recent graduate of each art school to bridge the gap between academia and the professional sector.

The 2023 iteration of the Kunsthalle Wien Prize is grounded in plurality, openness, and long-term exchange. Two winners will each receive a money prize. In addition to this, four to ten students — including the two prizewinners — will have the opportunity to present their works in a group show. Taking the practices of the selected artists as point of departure, this exhibition will be organized together with the curatorial team of Kunsthalle Wien. To contextualize the emerging artists’ works in diverse formats, a publication and a public program will accompany the show.

The prize offers an occasion to foster an extensive dialogue on the making of art and exhibitions in the current environment of material and knowledge production.

The award includes
— a money prize of € 3,000 each for two award winners (one winner from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, one winner from the University of Applied Arts Vienna)
— participation in a group show at Kunsthalle Wien for four to ten students who applied for the prize, including the two prizewinners
— inclusion in a publication of the show
— a studio visit by an international curator

The jury 2023 includes
The curatorial team of Kunsthalle Wien consisting of WHW, Astrid Peterle and Nicole Suzuki; from the Academy of Fine Arts Veronika Dirnhofer, Johan F. Hartle and Iman Issa; from the University of Applied Arts Robert Müller, Vika Prokopaviciute and Eva Maria Stadler; and as external juror Vít Havránek (curator and vice rector of the Academy of Fine Arts Prague).
