Guided tours

Our art educators introduce you to the works on view in our exhibitions and acquaint you with the exhibited artists and contemporary art at large. All guided tours may be customised to your needs and learning levels.

Public guided tours and art education formats within the framework of each exhibition are free with admission. Ranging from discursive overviews, topic-oriented tours, and curator-guided tours, to the “My View” tour series (where experts, amateurs and people of interest are invited to present their perspectives on the exhibition), the guided tour programs provide a host of possibilities for accessing and discussing the exhibition. Combined tours are also available with on-going collaborations with partner institutions such as the Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM) or the Architekturzentrum Wien (AzW).

Organized tours for schools and university groups are free.

Guided Tours for Groups

For individual groups or corporate events, we offer tours available when booked in advance. The tours can be customised to particular interests. Tours usually take 60 minutes, with the option to include a drinks reception. Tours are available in German, English, Italian, French, and Austrian Sign Language.

Tourcost: € 50

Maximum group size: 25 people

We are happy to help you plan and prepare your visit. If you have any questions, please contact us via phone or e-mail, or schedule a personal appointment.

Kids & Families

We regularly offer workshops for children and teenagers that encourage participants to let their imagination and creativity run wild. The workshops provide insights into the exhibitions and the artists’ creative processes, and support children in acquiring practical skills and techniques.

Children and young people (under 19) have free admission.

Students explore our current exhibitions and programs together with our art educators. We offer the following formats; “Conversational Guided Tour”, “Art Talk” and “Workshop”, which employ our exhibitions as vantage points for exciting engagement with contemporary art.

Our education programs should support learning processes in relation to art, and are meant to be a supplement to regular art class in school. The programs are customised to the level and potential of each age group and are addressed to all schools.

Conversational Guided Tours (60 minutes)
Discussions on artistic strategies on socially relevant topics should encourage critical thinking about and with contemporary art. Our educators support the students, provide information about the artists and the exhibitions, and ask questions and moderate discussions in small groups.

Art Talks (90 minutes)
Beginning with the respective exhibition on show, the topics negotiated therein are explored and discussed along the lines of an independent work assignment by the students. The goal is to stimulate critical thinking and to establish connections between contemporary art practices and the participant’s own life experience.

Workshop (120 minutes)
Filming, photographing, designing or animating – in dialogue with our current exhibitions, we want to give students the opportunity to experiment with artistic working methods in order to open access to a rich space of possibilities with the practical use of contemporary media.

We offer guided tours and art talks Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:30 am to 6 pm and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 8 pm

For schools the guided tours are free.

Children and young people (under 19) have free admission.

Accompanying teachers free (maximum two teachers per group).

Languages: German, English, Italian and French

One of our goals is to give teachers a deeper understanding of Kunsthalle Wien, its exhibitions, and contemporary art in general. We guide you through the exhibitions in regularly scheduled information events, and give insight into our work and our art education program. We also provide you with teaching material for the individual exhibitions on demand or via our newsletter.
