Austria's Cultural Heritage
Decolonizing in Vienna! Collective

The brochure Austria's Cultural Heritage by the Collective Decolonizing in Vienna! was created as part of the exhibition Space for Kids. It’s Your Mo(nu)ment! which in autumn 2020 focused on monuments and cultures of remembrance.

The brochure, available free of charge at the Kunsthalle Wien shop, contains a collection of texts by the collective Decolonizing in Vienna! and photographs by artist Carla Bobadilla of selected monuments, squares and streets in Vienna. These are intended to serve as prompts for reflection, offering perspectives on the city that reveal traces of past power structures, particularly within the context of colonial history and connect them with current societal debates surrounding interculturality, gender equality and racism.

The brochure is aimed at both young people and adults providing numerous suggestions for thinking about how power is represented and otherness is created in public spaces.

You can find more info and materials on anti-racist, postcolonial and decolonial theory and practice in Vienna here.

Austria's Cultural Heritage is published by the Education Department of Kunsthalle Wien.
