Plain language
Welcome to the website of
Kunsthalle Wien
Here you will find information in plain language.
What is Kunsthalle Wien?
Kunsthalle Wien is the exhibition house of the City of Vienna.
Every year we make 9 exhibitions.
In the exhibitions you can see contemporary art.
Contemporary art is art,
that is made today.
For example:
· Painting
· Drawing
· Sculptures
Sculptures are art works that look like an object
or a figure.
For example, they stand in a room.
And you can walk around them.
· Photography
· Films
· Music
· Digital art
· Performance
In a performance,
the artist's action is the art work.
The exhibitions often have topics
that are important to all of us.
For example:
· Equal rights
· Environment
· Politics
· Identity
Identity means:
Who am I and what do I like?
Which group do I feel I belong to?
How do I see myself?
How do others see me?
· Technology
Technology is the knowledge
of how we can change the world and our lives.
For example, how computers change our lives.
What does Kunsthalle Wien do?
Kunsthalle Wien works with
artists from Vienna and other countries.
Kunsthalle Wien also commissions new art works.
This means:
Artists make new works for the exhibition.
Kunsthalle Wien exhibits the art works and we make books about the exhibition.
Research is very important to Kunsthalle Wien.
Research is the search for new knowledge.
Kunsthalle Wien makes programs to accompany the exhibitions.
For example:
· Guided tours
· Lectures and discussions
· Workshops
Here you can take part yourself.
The programmes are for our visitors.
So that they can find out more about the exhibition.
Or learn something new.
You can read the program here:
https://kunsthallewien.at/en/calendar
This is important to Kunsthalle Wien
Kunsthalle Wien wants to be there for everyone.
Kunsthalle Wien wants to be a place,
where people can talk about art.
And where all kinds of contemporary art are shown.
