Assistant Curator
Are you passionate about contemporary art and its discourses? Do you have experience working with artists and organising exhibitions, and would you like to help shape Kunsthalle Wien’s programme?
Your responsibilities:
- Supporting the planning, research, development, production, contextualisation and evaluation of Kunsthalle Wien’s artistic programme
- Working closely with artists, curators and exhibition producers to support all aspects of exhibition development
- Working closely with the Head of Publications to support all aspects of editorial work
- Supporting artists in collaboration with other departments, particularly during exhibition installation
- Preparing, coordinating and documenting on project meetings
- Contributing to the research, writing, translating, editing and proofreading of exhibition texts and other exhibition-related materials in English and German
- Coordinating cross-departmental approvals for a range of texts and timelines
- Researching, preparing and reviewing exhibition documents and dossiers, including work lists, project descriptions, biographies, bibliographies and contact lists
- Drafting and submitting loan requests
- Supporting fundraising and sponsorship activities in coordination with other departments
- Contributing to communications and marketing strategies for exhibitions as well as to the development of artist editions and exhibition merchandise
- Working closely with the Chief Curator, Artistic Director and Education Department to support the research, development and implementation of exhibition concepts and public programmes
- Representing the institution locally, actively participating in and contributing to Vienna’s contemporary art and cultural scene
- Working with external partners at a local, national and international level
- Archiving exhibition materials in Kunsthalle Wien’s digital and physical archives and helping to maintain accurate, current records in the CRM
- Conducting guided tours and contributing to public programmes as required
- Working closely with the production team to support budgeting, scheduling, installation planning – including adapting SketchUp models – and other exhibition-planning documents, as required
- Curating and managing exhibitions and projects, as required
Your profile and desired qualifications:
- Knowledge of and enthusiasm for contemporary art and its discourses
- Completed relevant education and/or at least one years of professional experience in the field of contemporary art, preferably within a public institution
- Excellent communication skills in German and English, both written and spoken
- Very good IT skills, particularly in MS Office; knowledge of SketchUp is an advantage
- Excellent writing skills; please submit a writing sample of no more than one page
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Precise, structured and deadline-oriented approach to work, with excellent organisational skills
- A communicative and collaborative personality who enjoys taking responsibility and working independently
- Flexibility and resilience when working under time pressure
- Discretion and loyalty towards the institution

Employment level: full-time/ 40 hours per week
Working hours: Monday to Friday

Salary: 3,000 gross per month on a full-time basis
