Cultural politics follow both national and international trends. In some cases, however, national decisions are made that are, quite simply, problematic. These are intended to achieve stability, or even state control. Against the background of current developments in Hungary, where the official culture is almost completely under the domination of the Hungarian Academy of Arts (MMK) – originally a private institution with a strong link to Victor Orbán’s right-wing nationalist government – Barnabás Bencsik, former director of the Ludwig Museum in Budapest, and Slovakian artist Boris Ondrei
