Opening

Vienna is a city full of contrasts: historic architecture meets modern urban development, densely built-up streets meet expansive green spaces and individual stories meet a shared urban community. A major city is characterized not only by its buildings and public spaces, but above all by the people who experience, use and shape it every day.

The works presented in this exhibition were developed by students of the Institute for Art Education and realised in collaboration with pupils from the Modular Secondary School in Aspern. Inspired by the exhibition Lebt und arbeitet in Wien: Contemporary Art from Vienna, artistic projects were created in which the pupils engaged with their city and its immediate surroundings. Drawing on personal experiences, observations and discoveries, they developed individual approaches to themes such as space, identity, community and everyday urban life. Familiar places were viewed anew, districts creatively interpreted and traces of urban life collected and made visible.

Using a variety of artistic media and techniques, works were created that show Vienna from the perspective of young people. They invite us to discover the city not merely as a geographical space, but as a living place full of stories, relationships and personal meanings.

Following a project-based course lasting several weeks, the exhibition of the pupils’ work will open at 22 June at Kunsthalle Wien Atelier. You can visit the exhibition until 26 October 2026 during the Kunsthalle Wien’s opening hours with free admission.
