This comprehensive retrospective on Alberto Giacometti (b. 1901, Stampa, Switzerland – d. 1966, Chur, Switzerland) continued the series of presentations on classical modern art. The exhibition focused less on the presentation of individual works or the chronological order of his creative periods but rather on the exploration of intersecting connections and dialogical references. Giacometti's almost obsessive search for ways to represent the human being is most impressively documented by his multi-layered portraits. Numerous public collections and private lenders supported the exhibition, which presented some of the artist's previously unseen works alongside well-known major sculptures and paintings.

The exhibition was conceived in collaboration with the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh and, after its presentation in Edinburgh, was taken over by the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
