To teach art also means to navigate the unstable space between intuition, experience and knowledge. In Vienna, this unfolds within a multifaceted landscape of artistic education shaped by different institutions, pedagogical traditions and forms of knowledge production. Bringing together Judith Eisler, Philipp Fleischmann and Iman Issa, this conversation considers what it means to simultaneously inhabit the roles of artist and teacher – shaping others while also being shaped through the act of teaching itself. The discussion reflects on the reciprocal relationship between artistic practice and pedagogy, asking how teaching informs the speakers’ own work and ways of thinking. In conversation with Carina Bukuts (Chief Curator, Kunsthalle Wien), the artists will further consider what kinds of pedagogies they practice or advocate for and how these are conditioned by institutional frameworks as well as the broader realities under which artistic education takes place today.

The talk is free with a valid exhibition ticket.
