Visionäre & Vertriebene
Österreichische Spuren in der modernen amerikanischen Architektur
Continuing its focus on architecture, Kunsthalle Wien presented an overview of the works of Austrian modern architects who emigrated or were displaced to the United States between 1911 and 1941. The Anglo-American cultural sphere offered an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the European avant-garde. But it was also a land of hope for a wide variety of architectural visions whose realisation seemed unthinkable in Europe.
Visionäre & Vertriebene [Visionaries & Displaced Persons] aimed to broaden the perspective on Austrian modernism and paint a broader picture of this movement than had been known to date. The exhibition spanned from the first (in the European sense) modern buildings of the 1920s in the USA to important projects from the 1950s.
In addition, a symposium with international experts was held at the Architektur Zentrum Wien.
