ChancenZUKUNFT Wien / gabarage – manufacture
Kunsthalle Wien is pleased to collaborate with the project ChancenZUKUNFT Wien. The initiative is run by gabarage – manufacture – Association for Sustainable Solutions to Social, Ecological and Societal Challenges, which supports young people between the ages of 15 and 25 in (re)entering the education system or the labor market.
A key aspect of the project is introducing participants to the concepts of sustainability, particularly the ideas of re-use and upcycling. Through hands-on workshops held in the Kunsthalle Wien Atelier, participants receive creative input and are introduced to a variety of artistic techniques. Previous programmes have included the following workshops.
Zeichendisco with Aleksandra Domanović
In the Zeichendisco workshop, the young participants collaborated on a large-scale artwork – accompanied by a DJ set from artist Aleksandra Domanović and inspired by movement, body and drawing exercises.
Artist workshop with Birke Gorm
In another workshop with artist Birke Gorm, they explored the technique of patchwork – but with a twist: instead of using fabric scraps, they worked with recycled paper such as newspapers, packaging materials and scrap paper to create their own unique artworks.
Woven Pixels
In the exhibition Radical Software: Women, Art & Computing 1960–1991, the young participants learned how women artists were already using computers as a creative medium in earlier decades. They explored the connections between digital art and weaving and – inspired by the artworks on display – went on to create their own woven pieces using colourful threads.
