The Exhibition as a Learning Space × Radical Software

How do you build a robot that paints colourful pictures?
What will archaeologists think of us in 500 years when they dig up our technological waste?
What films do cyborgs make and what does weaving actually have to do with computers?

Inspired by the themes of the exhibition Radical Software: Women, Art & Computing 1960–1991, students from the Institute for Art Education at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna developed teaching units, which they tested in practice during a project lasting several weeks together with pupils from the Modular Middle School Aspern. The project was realised in the context of the course An Exhibition as a Learning Space.

This collaboration resulted in an exhibition of the pupils’ work, which is on view at the Kunsthalle Wien Atelier from 16 June to 31 August 2025. The exhibition is open throughout the summer holidays free of charge.

In addition, all projects will be published in a booklet with material information and step-by-step instructions. The booklet will be available free of charge at the Kunsthalle Wien Atelier at the start of the new school year.
