Lazar Lyutakov has repurposed pale pink and blue plastic cups from a defunct catering supplier to produce a series of new lamps that can be hung from a hook on the ceiling or wall, or placed on a table or the floor. Though brand-new, these mass-produced plastic objects have become redundant or unfashionable, prompting Lyutakov to amass a collection over several decades. Repurposed in his artworks, they probe the hierarchies between the everyday and the high-end as well as the shifting systems of value within globalised production.

Baby Lamp (2026) also forms part of the installation Zwischendecke (2026), presented at Kunsthalle Wien’s Ziegelfoyer, where similar plastic vessels are assembled in a large sculpture that takes the form of an oversized chandelier. Both artwork and lamp, the edition hovers between art, design and utility, rooted in a culture of experimentation with readily available materials and an ongoing interest in how objects circulate, transform and return to use.

Sales proceeds support Kunsthalle Wien’s programme.
