Ibrahim Mahama: Zilijifa

A major new exhibition by Ibrahim Mahama (b. 1987, Tamale, Ghana) is installed across the first floor of the Kunsthalle’s Museumsquartier building. The exhibition presents an entirely new body of commissioned work including installation, photography and video for which Mahama draws upon the material legacy of colonialism, post-colonialism and industrialisation in Ghana.

Nicola L.

The exhibition of French artist Nicola L., who died in 2018, is characterised by wit, playfulness and subversion. Variously celebrated in relation to pop art, nouveau réalisme, the applied arts and design, Nicola L.’s expansive practice addresses diverse subjects including cosmology, environmental concerns, spirituality, sexuality, activism and political resistance.

Burn The Diaries, Read Them Out Loud

The exhibition incorporates a programme of performance, readings, discussions and exchange with a focus on text in the field of contemporary art. Conceived as a group exhibition in progress, artworks installed at its inception will be in dialogue with numerous performative interventions taking place at and around Kunsthalle Wien Karlsplatz over a course of four months. Looking closely at the practice of annotating, editing and writing in art, the format of the exhibition considers text as the framework for or ‘skeleton’ of artmaking – expanding its status beyond the preliminary note.
