Prosopopoeia (hosted by Inga Charlotte Thiele): Reader, my neck is your neck.

The workshop Reader, my neck is your neck., conceived by Inga Charlotte Thiele, is dedicated to the marginalia, lists and annotations that arise consciously or unconsciously during (un)concentrated reading and working, but also in everyday life. The organization and arrangement of (administrative) language – in the creation of inventory lists, calendars and invoices – will be examined through the lens of experimental writing. On site, we will read together, do writing exercises and discuss what we have written. Questions about the beginnings of an attitude in writing, the ‘start’ of narration and the development of the narrator’s voice will be discussed.

Prosopopoeia

Prosopopoeia (est. 2023 by Inga Charlotte Thiele) is an exhibition space, programme, bookshop and host for text- and language-based artistic practices. Prosopopoeia is located in Vienna's 5th district in the Julius-Popp-Hof, which was built between 1925-26 and is one of Wiener Wohnen’s first social housing complexes.

Kate Briggs

Part of the workshop was developed in conversation with British writer, editor and translator Kate Briggs. Briggs lives in Rotterdam, where she teaches at the Piet Zwart Institute and founded the writing and publishing project @shortpiecesthatmove. Among other works, she translated Roland Barthes’ lecture notes at the Collège de France: “How to Live Together” and “The Preparation of the Novel” (Columbia University Press: 2013 and 2011). “This Little Art,” a book about translation practice, was published by Fitzcarraldo Editions in 2017. In 2021, she was awarded the Windham-Campbell Prize. Her debut novel, “The Long Form,” was published in 2023 (Fitzcarraldo: 2023). She has also published “Story the Story in It” (Amodern: 2015) and “Entertaining Ideas” (Ma bibliothèque: 2019). Her English translation of “Lili Is Crying” (Fitzcarraldo Editions: 2025) by Hélène Bessette has just been published.
