On Learning a Language: Screening & discussion β Critical perspectives
Date and time
Location
Kunsthalle Wien
Museumsquartier
With: Ilkim Erdost, Head of the Adult Education Centre in the 16th and 17th district of Vienna
The question who has to learn a language at which point of time is closely connected to political discourses β that at the same time regulate the unequal distribution of possibilities for social inclusion and mobility. Does an integration concept overlook a central factor of societal mechanisms of exclusion, as long as it does not support a multilingual migration society?
Together with Ildim Erdost we want to ask βwhich framework does an emancipatory learning of German need?β
On Learning a Language
In the context of a fellowship by kΓΌltΓΌΕ gemma! and as part of the Community College, the filmmaker Chantelle Lavel Boyea will realize a film project focused on the experience of having to learn a language.
The project will take form in three stages; the first being a filmmaking workshop open to the public in June 2017. After this, a film group will form from the participants of the workshop and further guests that will produce a 15 minute collaborative documentary On Learning a Language over the course of the summer. Public discussions and screenings related to the topic will be organized by the Kunsthalle Wien Denkfabrik and take place as part of the Community College.
This project is realized in the frame of a fellowship by kΓΌltΓΌΕ gemma! at Kunsthalle Wien. www.kueltuergemma.at
