Cat Jimenez: Presence

This workshop focuses on presence in freestyle contexts and how dancers can move beyond overthinking, excessive control or hiding behind movement or character. We will not overcome insecurities in 90 minutes, but we will create space for a physical dialogue with one’s relationship to movement, exploring the bandwidth of intention while digging into our favourite alter egos and jumping through time zones. The aim is to support risk taking, expand expressive range and strengthen one’s connection and groundedness in cyphers, battles and performance situations.

Cat Jimenez

Cat Jimenez is a Vienna-based choreographer, actress and dancer with roots in freestyle culture and subcultural movement practices. With a background in visual arts and fashion, she works across performances, film and interdisciplinary collaborations. Her practice investigates how movement, music and cultural memory inform the human experience, viewing rhythm as an alchemistic force that shows what humans carry inside and with them both individually and collectively, emotionally and historically. Jimenez’ own works have been shown at platforms such as brut’s Imagetanz, Ars Electronica Festival, Sound:Frame and the 12th Festival for Fashion and Photography. She curated Kultursommer Wien for three consecutive years.

Check your bias at the door
Let’s unpack it together!

Did you ever judged a dancer before they even moved or wondered why you are wearing baggy pants and nikep6000? Let’s talk about it. Your bias is showing. 

In this workshop we will dive into different forms of unconscious biases. We will reflect on how they influence us in the way we move and engage within the streetdance scene. With that being said, we are looking forward to exchanging and learn together!
