Circle Talks is an open discussion and exchange format within the framework of the kültüř gemma!-fellowship by Viviane Lê Tanzmeister at Kunsthalle Wien.

Based on street dance and hip-hop cultures, in which gathering in a circle (cypher) is a central social and artistic practice, Circle Talks invites participants to experience gathering as a form of care, exchange and collective perception. Circle Talks is deliberately designed to be low-threshold: we sit together in a circle, take time to arrive, listen and exchange ideas. It’s not about performance, but about collective questioning and being together. Circle Talks will be rounded off with an open dance jam – so come by to groove, shake and exchange.

This second Circle Talk centres communal care as a shared practice and a lived experience. Together, we will create a space for exchange, listening and collective reflection on what care can look like within communities. The session includes the creation of individual care maps, inspired by Oumou Sylla’s workshop from last autumn. No prior experience or attendance at the workshop is needed – the exercise serves as a gentle entry point into reflecting on care relationships, resources and responsibilities.

In conversation, we will reflect on questions such as:

  • What does money have to do with community care?
  • Do we practise care because there is a lack of it?
  • How is community-relevant information shared – and who has access to it?

The insights, thoughts and questions that arise will be collectively documented, creating an archive of the session. The intention of this gathering is to come together, exchange perspectives, and activate a collective understanding of care as something relational, practiced and shaped in community.
